Condolences. Time to abolish the Monarchy.
Condolences to the Windsor family of the United Kingdom, following the death of their matriarch Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, better known as Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. Beloved around the world Elizabeth will be missed by many, the world knew her as the ever living embodiment of the Windsor family.
Her son, Charles is now the inheritor of the vast lands, wealth, and jewels Elizabeth owned. Charles is a far more controversial figure, and will likely lead to movements to strip the Windsor family of their special status that has no real place in the modern world. The Windsors were made wealthy through the greed of their ancestors, slavery, and colonialism.
With Charles taking the title of King, we will likely see a drastic reduction in the scope of the monarchy, if not the complete abolition of the special status. Scotland is ruled by a nationalist party seeking to become independent from the nation, without Elizabeth acting as Head of State it only makes it more likely for them to leave. The general unpopularity of Charles makes it likely others may leave as well, particularly those nations who have no interest in having an old white man, be their official head of state.
In the United States we are struggling to uphold the idea of nobody is above the law, as we see a former president afforded special protections. Yet an investigation is still open against him, this is not possible to do to Charles. In the United Kingdom, there is one person above the law, the King or Queen, in this case Charles. Charles is interested in politics and while his mother remained neutral, the monarchy technically keeps some powers. If Charles so wished he could start the process of regaining power from the elected government of the United Kingdom.
Over the next few days and weeks we will see grand gestures of funeral processions, and coronation. Even a scaled back version of what was done in the past, will cost the taxpayers of the United Kingdom millions if not billions of dollars. The monarchy was before Elizabeth's death a popular tourist revenue for the country, with Charles in charge I can't see this revenue holding up. Giving tours of royal jewels, and castles will receive no boost from Charles, and as such the UK should just give the tours without the money drain of a King. And should give some portion of the revenue to the countries said jewels were stolen from.
Monarchy in all forms is unnecessary, and that includes any Head of State separate from the Head of Government. It is time for the commonwealth countries to break free of the family that literally enslaved them, and see a true republic. The royals have wasted opportunities to prove themselves useful to the country. They failed with Diana and with Megan. They failed when they allowed themselves to be above the law. I was supportive of ending the monarchy before, I just know it got a lot easier.
Elizabeth, I truly thought would outlive her son, she would find a way knowing that if she didn't the monarchy would fall. Elizabeth was monarch in an amazing time in world history, and didn't stand in the way of many reforms and movements. Elizabeth will be missed, but Viva La Revolucion.
I hope you have a good week. Again condolences to the Windsor Family.
